Scythe Mini Ninja Heatpipe CPU Cooler

By popular demand the Mini Ninja is back! At only 115mm tall, case compatibility is assured.

The Scythe Ninja has graced our product range for several years and during that time it has become one of our most popular CPU coolers. The reason it has been so popular is probably because it is one of the most efficient heatsinks available. Just take a look at just some of the reviews of the product to see why it has done so well!

One of the drawbacks of the Ninja is its size. It stands 150mm tall and because of this it cannot fit into all cases. This is where the Mini Ninja comes in. In essence the Mini Ninja is just as its name suggests! The only difference between the Ninjas is their height, with the Mini Ninja only 115mm, which is 35mm shorter than its bigger brother. This gives the Mini broader compatibility with today’s cases, especially smaller HTPC type cases.

Performance

You would think that reduction in size would affect performance, considering it has six less aluminium fins. In fact you would be wrong! From a performance point of view the Mini Ninja is virtually identical to the Ninja. Where the Ninja excels is when the heatsinks are being used fanless - then, the additional six fins are very beneficial.

Fan Control

If you prefer to have control over the fan speed then we would recommend that you use a Zalman FANMATE 2 or similar fan controller, which will allow you to set your own balance between cooling and noise. Many processors simply won’t need the fan running at full speed in order to keep them cool.

Features

The Mini Ninja is a very good cooler, even without any consideration of size or fan type used. But there are several situations where a Scythe Ninja Mini is an excellent choice.

Scythe Mini Ninja

,

A very nice product that’s cooled my AMD X2 4850e (45W CPU) without the supplied fan: it works better as a passive heatsink than the standard (noisy) AMD heatsink/fan assembly that shipped with the chip. The Scythe Mini Ninja is compact and fits (just) into my Antec Fusion case, so the PVR in the living room runs very quietly now.

Two small demerits:

  1. The engaging clip is very hard to engage into the CPU surround lugs on the default setting so you’ll need to move the clip up to its middle slot. This means it attaches and works fine, without needing to put scary amounts of pressure onto the motherboard.
  2. The Scythe fan is a bit noisy - but then, I don’t need it….

Good product!

,

All in all a good product. Does not take up too much space in the case, has reduced CPU temps noticeably but also, by improving overall airflow in my case, it has also reduced GPU temps. Delivered very promptly (as always). Only complaint, like the previous reviewer, I found the fan a little fiddly to fit but not a major problem!

Tight fit but efficient

,

Stock AMD cooler ran the AMD 5600 at 52/54C, the mini Ninja runs at 43C on 100% CPU load. Fitting is tight with an Asus M3N78-EM motherboard, but all RAM slots can be used, as fan can be fitted to clear. Great care with PSU cable routing. Used the excellent Scythe 92mm PWM fan.
