Cooltek UMX2 Compact Midi Tower Aluminium Cases

Cooltek’s UMX2 is a compact ATX case that combines a steel chassis for maximum stability with an extravagant exterior designed in brushed aluminium. The design of the sleek aluminium casing is both elegant and functional. Two versions are available; one with a side panel window and one without.

The fine curves of the UMX2 automatically draws attention to itself, with the design highlight being without a doubt the peppy designed case foot. Between the bottom of the chassis and the foot is a 6.5cm high recess. One advantage of this is that the internally mounted fans can effortlessly suck in fresh air for optimum cooling of the system.

Thanks to the specially decoupled side panels, the UMX2 is also very quiet during operation. The side panels rest on a specially designed silicone pad, optimally absorbing any vibrations that may occur.

The chassis of the UMX2 is made of high quality 0.8/1mm thick SGCC steel and gives the case maximum stability. A 2.5mm thick aluminium panel encloses the chassis and the side panels are formed from 2 mm thick aluminium. The brushed aluminium is of the highest quality and gives the UMX2 a particularly attractive appearance. Air intakes in the bottom and under the top allow for ideal air exchange.

The interior of the UMX2 has been designed to be as innovative as the exterior. The power supply is installed in a specially designed frame behind the front panel to save space and an extensive cable management system permits a clean installation of the cables. The power connector is located at its usual place at the rear of the case with a corresponding pre-installed loop cable.

The Hard Drive cage is located above the PSU, which can accommodate up to three 3.5” drives. The hard drives are simply fitted with specially designed screws with anti-vibration rubber and inserted into the drive bays. The installation is very simple and guarantees that any vibrations that might occur are effectively dampened. On top of the HDD cage is a mounting frame for a slim-line slot loading optical drive.

Another 2.5” HDD/SSD can be mounted to the back of the motherboard tray. Therefore the hard drive capacity of the case can easily be extended without causing space problems in this compact case.

The ventilation system of the UMX2 is designed for maximum performance. In order to guarantee the optimal ventilation of the interior, two 120 x 20mm thin fans are pre-installed at the bottom in order to suck in cool air from the outside. Under the top cover is installed a 140mm fan that continuously removes the heat generated from the interior. Dust filters under the bottom ensure that dust stays out, and can be easily removed and cleaned.

Finally, two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 connectors are available at the front of the case as well as headphone and microphone sockets.

Build Considerations

To fit an ATX motherboard in this enclosure, the fans on the base of the case will have to be removed in order to use the ports located on the bottom edge of the motherboard.

Please Note: Although the user manual for these cases makes reference to an HDD LED cable, these are not supplied with the case. Instead of this, there is a power LED cable which activates a small blue LED in the centre of the power button when the PC is switched on.
