Streacom NC1 Fanless Aluminium Chassis for Intel Haswell NUC

Streacom have updated their NUC range of chassis to now provide compatibility with Intel’s 4th generation Haswell NUCs!

Introducing the Streacom chassis designed for Intel’s NUC systems and as one would expect it is manufactured primarily from aluminium, which is in direct contact with the NUC’s CPU. This allows the NC1 to cool the CPU without the need for a fan, transforming it into a truly silent system. Furthermore, the aluminium panels are all beautifully sandblasted which giving the NC1 the most elegant look when it comes to housing the tiny PC!

Features

  1. Beautifully crafted aluminium chassis for Intel’s NUC systems
  2. Totally silent thanks to fanless cooling
  3. Acrylic sides maximise Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection speeds
  4. Modular chassis makes it easy to upgrade
  5. Suitable for Haswell NUCs only

The chassis is modular, which means the front, rear and CPU cooler parts of the chassis can be replaced to accommodate future NUC motherboards. It also features acrylic sides that allow for the internal WiFi and Bluetooth signals to propagate, keeping the outside sleek and clutter free. An optional VESA compatible mount allows it to be hidden behind the monitor, but with looks like this surely it needs to be on display.

Compatibility

The NC1-WY is compatible with Intel’s D54250WYB (i5) and D34010WYB (i3) 4th generation NUC motherboards. These are the same motherboards found in our Haswell NUCs found here. Please we aware that the NC1-WY does not support an internal 2.5” drive.

Serious Design Flaw, Be warned this case may burn you.

,

Fast service as always and a lovely looking case, The green standby led and blue power led both show through, but be warned this case reaches temperature of over 65 Degree’s C and burn my finger when trying to shut it down using the power button. This was running OpenELEC for only 3 hours. The power button should have been designed different. Im just glad my two young children hadn’t touched it or I could have been taking them to hospital. The case should have been engineered with a power button design that avoids contact with the case when pressing it in and a warning shipped about the excessive heat generated all over the case. My Streacom FC8 evo case cooling fins and case never get anywhere near this heat, maybe they should have made it slightly larger so as to disperse the heat better. Skin can burn when touching a metal surface of over 60 Degree’s C.

Quiet PC replied on 3rd April 2014

Hi Andy - thanks for your kind words about our service and the aesthetics of the case. Being fanless, the cases do indeed get hot when the computer is running at full load for an extended period of time and this is by design in order to ensure the safety and reliability of the computer. If the PC is going to be used intensively on a regular basis we would normally recommend that it be installed away from the immediate vicinity of the living area.

There shouldn’t be any risk of injury since it’s likely that contact with the power button would only be momentary but the design of the button could indeed be improved. I’m sure you know already that the PC can be powered down or put into sleep mode using a remote control which circumvents the problem and may be more convenient. But if you’re unhappy with the case then of course a refund or exchange would be no problem so please contact us to arrange that.
